Scientist examines purported miracle petals for TV special

At the request of the Fox Network, environmental horticulture professor Michael Reid, left, examines rose petals bearing images resembling Christ and the Virgin Mary while Fox photographer David Moir captures his work on film.

The rose petals, which came from the home of a woman in Monterrey, Mexico, will be part of a television special "Signs from God: Science Tests Faith," which will air July 28, including a live interview from UC Davis.

Reid, who was asked to examine the petals to determine if the images were natural or contrived, said: "To me, every rose petal is a miracle."
