Plans begin for building a wastewater facility

The campus community is invited to comment on a plan to build a wastewater treatment plant west of Highway 113 at a public meeting 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. The meeting will be held in the Alpha Gamma Rho Hall of the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.

The project would replace the 46-year-old wastewater treatment facility south of La Rue Road along Putah Creek Lodge Drive. The preferred site for the new plant is on the northwest corner of Garrod Drive and Campbell Road near the Beef Barn.

The public can also comment on the initial study by submitting written questions and reactions to the Planning and Budget Office by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19. Copies of the study of the project are available to the public at the Yolo County Library, 315 E. 14th St., and in the Reserve Reading Room of Shields Library.

The new facility would be designed to be more efficient, reliable and flexible to meet the future discharge permit requirements. In addition, the plans call for building a treatment plant that would protect water quality and aquatic life in Putah Creek.

The campus also hopes to locate the plant at a site that will allow for future expansion. In accordance with growth projects in the 1994 Long Range Development Plan, the plant capacity needs to be expanded in a cost-effective manner during its projected 30-year lifespan.
